After the procrastination

Mrs. Wilt is hosting an anti-procrastination challenge! Here's my first entry.

Here is what happens when I decide to stop procrastinating about giving my son a haircut. ;)

I love short haircuts on my boys. They just look so sharp! There's no messy hair days, and there's less shampoo to rinse out at bath time. :)

Yehoshua actually lets me use the clippers on his hair now (without crying fits!) and I love how it looks.

Haircuts are something I like to procrastinate on, though. As much as I like the end result, I just don't like getting hair all over me! And with how fast my husband's and son's hair grows, they need haircuts every 3 weeks!

Tomorrow, I'll stop procrastinating about writing a Certain Letter that has been put off for weeks. This will make my Husband happy. :)

haircuts

We do haircuts every three weeks, also. My husband just does the boys whenever he does his own hair :-). My one year old doesn't fuss at all but my three year old cries and whines the entire time. In the summer time, we just make them practically bald so the sand doesn't stick :-).

My husband does his own.

My husband does his own. I'm almost ready for him to start paying again just so I don't have to clean up!

This summer, we'll start doing what his mother used to do with her three boys--cutting their hair in the back yard.

We also do our own haircuts. It saves lots of money too!

You're so lucky that you only have to do it once every three weeks! My husband has to have his cut every two weeks, and frankly, he could stand to have it cut every week and a half! I wish I was blessed with such fast growing hair!

As for getting it all over the place, I put an old twin size fitted sheet on the floor in the bathroom and set a wooden chair (no cushion) on it, then we do the haircut there. That way, all hair winds up on the sheet and can be easily brushed off the chair. I then gather up the sheet and shake it outside, then throw it in the wash with the other sheets that week. It REALLY helps cut down on the after-haircut cleanup!

Using sheets for haircuts

We used to do something similar to this, but I could never get all the hair off the sheet (or t-shirt), even with washing it more than once. :( Joshua's hair is a lot worse about that than Yehoshua's, because Joshua's is coarse and the hairs are like needles! Yehoshua's hair is finer and easier to clean up. :)

My dustbuster is my friend, when it comes to cleaning up after a haircut! :)

So Cute

Good job Tammy, he looks so cute! I cut my husband and my 4 boy's hair once a month and I figure I save $660.00 a year doing it myself. I hate getting hair all over the kitchen and all over me too. In the summer, I do them outside.

Oh fun ;)

Having a Marine for a husband means a haircut once a week. But the amount of money we save by having me do it ($6-9/week) is well worth it. Troy still hasn't needed a hair cut yet... but that'll sure be interesting when he does!

Oh, I loved reading all your comments on this topic! :)

Katie, Yehoshua was baaaaadddd for his haircuts until the last two. :| Now he's good. Last time he said, "I'm not even crying!" It was cute. :) I give him short haircuts because (in theory) it means I can wait longer until the next one!! :)

I think we'll be trying the "outside" thing soon. We used to always do the haircuts on the enclosed porch, but right now it's 40 degrees out there, and so... ;)

When Yehoshua was younger (under 2 years old), I let him run around outside and play while I followed after him with a scissors, snipping away and letting the hair blow away. :)

Ashleigh, you're probably a pro at haircuts!! Do you cut anyone's besides J's? :) I used to do my brothers' haircuts, but now they all cut each others' hair. :)

Girls' Haircuts

I would love to start saving money (not to mention the time spent driving to and from the salon and waiting our turn) by cutting my daughters' hair. Any suggestions from you, Tammy, or other readers, of how I go about learning how to do it (short of taking a class). I think girls' hair can be trickier, especially since my two oldest have very different hair "types" - one is thick and wavy with tons of cowlicks, one soft and fine and very straight. Any books, web sites, etc you can suggest? Thanks!

Giving young boys a haircut

Giving young boys a haircut can be challenging!! I have even given haircuts while my son was sitting in swing outside. :) Now dh gives our oldest boy his haircut and I still give dh his. :) Soon another little boy will have his first haircut. :)

Buy a cheap shower curtain

Buy a cheap shower curtain and wrap it well around the neck and shoulders of the person you are giving a haircut to. Instead hair sticking to clothes like little needles, it nicely slides to the floor and it is easy to vacuum or sweep off.

Becky, I will start a new post about haircuts! :)

Tanya, I think I'll be doing a lot of outside haircuts this summer. :)

Pinja, that's a good idea! I think a large garbage bag might work, too! Thanks for your suggestion! :)
