Here's what really works for me when it comes to de-cluttering: Decluttering drawers, closets, etc. when I'm frustrated or upset. I'm much more likely to toss old, unused items when I'm sick and tired of the extra junk!! If I'm in a really good mood, I tend to just clean, organize, and not get rid of things. :) Now, I'm certainly not advocating being grumpy, angry, or upset. But we all have times when we are frustrated, and I've found that along with praying and thinking positive, wholesome thoughts, a good "venting" exercise is de-cluttering. Stuff moves towards the "give away" pile a lot more quickly when I'm not in the best of moods. :) |

Decluttering!
I totally agree!! I get rid of soooo much more when I'm annoyed with the state of the closet or drawer.
That also works for
That also works for decluttering kids rooms. I'm much more likely to get rid of the junk when I'm totally frustrated with the way their room looks (and after it has been looking that way for awhile.)
decluttering
Hi Tammy, I am new to your site and just wanted to say how much I enjoy all your recipes and helpful tips. I just got on the computer to take a break from......decluttering myself, and here you were talking about that. :) I don't know how things got so out of hand but with a family of five children do I need to wonder anymore? :) Yes, decluttering fast and furious does help the cause. I guess I just reach a point where I can't stand it anymore and away I go. I am working in my closet but want to go back and forth between that and my daughter's room. Happy decluttering. Robin
Oh too funny, my beloved
Oh too funny, my beloved does the same thing, only it is cleaning and tidying. I always know he is in a "I've got to work this through" mood when all of a sudden he is looking for things to put away, dishes to wash and dry or if something is really bothering him the vacuum is pulled out. These are never his "regular" chores, so I know something is bothering him.

Furiously de-cluttering :)
Robin, thanks for sharing! :) I have been trying (key word: trying!) to watch everything that enters our home in order to keep "junk" at a minimum. I'm getting a lot of practice, and I only have two little children! Whatever will I do when I have a bunch of children, all begging to keep huge piles of their "favorite" things?! ;)
Shari, you know, I think working extra hard is a great way to relieve stress or vent frustration. In the end, when you've worked through the issue, you at least have some work done! Far better than the tempting "outlets" of gossip or saying things we'll regret later! :)
This makes me remember
This makes me remember an incident early in our marriage. My husband came home from work one day to find me furiously decluttering the kitchen. I looked up with a cheery smile, said 'Hello' and went back to my task. He answered with, "What's wrong." Turns out there was something wrong and he was keen enough to decipher my behavior and see I was in a mood even through my fake smile.
Decluttering...
So true!!! I get SO MUCH more done when I've reached my limits in some area...doesn't even have to be limits with the house. Next week I'm going to tackle what I call "the storage room" and try to sort through unwanted holiday decor, unused household decorations and stuff I've been saving for our daughters. Wish me luck!
