April 22, 2007 -- Deluxe Whole Wheat Strawberry Shortcake

Deluxe Whole Wheat Strawberry Shortcake recipe

This week's featured recipe is Deluxe Whole Wheat Strawberry Shortcake! This is the best whole wheat sponge cake I've ever had -- light and fluffy with a slightly crisp top and a great flavor.

While this cake is yummy all by itself, it's even better when topped with freshly whipped cream and sliced strawberries. We love this cake!

I'm actually planning to make one of these today, since I now have baking powder again. ;) Last time, I made a double batch and it didn't last long at all! Yehoshua and I like to snack on the cake as soon as it comes out of the oven. ;)

Looks like a great recipe just in time for the .99 strawberries this week!

That's what I was thinking! We got 25lbs of .99 strawberries. Too bad we don't actually have the freezer space for them! (we're making the strawberry lemonade for Sunday supper tonight :))

Oh that looks beautiful Tammy, and I'm not even a stawberry fan! Our older son is allergic to strawberries, but we still get our yummy, fresh-picked, organic ones from the farm down the road each year. I will definitely be trying your WW shortcake recipe!

I am going to have to make that!

I just planted my strawberries this weekend, so it will be a few months before I have my own. Lucky for me, our grocery gets local strawberries in a few weeks that are the best ever!

Keep the whole wheat recipes coming!

Brandy, did you just get starts for your strawberry patch? I was thinking that strawberry plants need to grow for a year before you eat the fruit. My parents have grown strawberries for many years, and would start new patches from their old. They would pick off the blossoms the first summer, and then start harvesting the next year. However, that could be a different kind than what you got. :)

Glad you all like whole wheat recipes! :D
