When you cook a meal, how many people are you cooking for? (on average)

Close call!

I voted 2-3 (which fits the number of mouths who eat table food in our family), but I was tempted to go higher because I grill a lot for company. And to be honest I like cooking for a lot of people!

You know what...

...I thought of that! Someone who only cooks for company would have an inflated number :D But that's okay :D I wasn't asking family-size, I was asking cooking-size ;) From the looks of this poll, my recipes that make huge amounts of something aren't useless! :D

Big family here!

It's nice to find a cooking web site where big meals are to be found! I know how I'll ever adjust to cooking for only my future husband and I. I could cook for 12 and then have lots of leftovers!lol :D

I must admit:

...the results of this poll were rather surprising to me! I didn't realise that so many people who visited thus far (in the last week or so) cooked for such large groups! :)

Two

Usually just myself and my boyfriend. I love to have people over for supper though.

Re-running this poll from 2.5 years ago! It got 101 votes back then... :)

4-5

But if you want to say portion size I would say 6-7.4 in our family.2 of them are kids but eat good size portions.

cook for leftovers

We cook for 4 people but I like to have leftovers for later in the week so I plan meals for 10. I grew up in a large family so those quantities are just the simplest. :)

i voted for 8-9. We have a

i voted for 8-9. We have a family of 6 so far, but my husband likes leftovers. Though, I don't think we always eat a lot. We fill in the corners with homemade bread and jam.

11

We currently cook for 11 people and its difficult to have any leftovers anymore.

Even when we were a smaller family, I still cooked in large quantities and froze the remainder in future meal sizes or take to work sizes for my husband.

I sure miss having all the convenient frozen meals of roasted turkey, spaghetti sauce, chili and soups in my freezer now! We just can't get ahead of that curve anymore.

Four

Our family is only four mouths. We routinely have company over, but usually only one extra couple. Our home isn't really big enough to host a lot of people (not to mention our kitchen table only seats 4).

The only time I cook for more than 6 is when my parents and 2 sisters come over. Then I'm cooking for 8. They're family, so we don't feel bad not having table space for them.

8.5

We feed 8.5 here. We have 8 that eat and 1 that is just starting table food. So that's why I say 8.5. I love cooking for a large family!

10+ here

We cook for 10+ as there are 10 in our family and we always try to have enough for leftovers for another complete meal or at least for a single lunch for hubby or one of us who may be "on the go".

I cook for 4 mouths, but 2

I cook for 4 mouths, but 2 of them eat as much as eat 2-3 times as much as the normal person.... so I always make lots and they they eat leftovers... that is if there are any!!

I hate to admit it but I

I hate to admit it but I usually make two dinners, DH can't eat any dairy and loves spicy ethnic foods and doesn't eat till around 8 pm, the rest of the family eats at around 5 pm and the toddler usually can't handle the really spicy stuff.

I cook for our family of 7

I cook for our family of 7 and about once a week we have people over - so between 1 and 6 extras.

Just for 2

I am cooking for my husband and me but we never just make enough for two. We usually make enough for at least 1-2 lunches for me to take to work. This week, though, we made our favorite vegan split pea soup, which serves probably 8-10; I freeze the leftovers for future lunches.

Number in family vs number I cook for!

I have a constantly eating teenage boy so I always cook 4 servings or more. If there are leftovers they are either homeschool lunch or my dinner at work.

I cook for 7

I cook for 7 but always cook extra (you never know who will drop by)

Big Family!

I cook for the family members, guests, mission partners and planned left overs. That's a lot of mouths to feed! What a blessing!

I cook for 12

I cook for my family of 13

Freezer food

I cook for three of us, but I'm just starting to make food for the freezer (I'm pregnant with my second child and want to stock up for after delivery), so I've recently started doubling a few recipes.
