A Disaster In Progress![]() There's a disaster in progress, in my oven. I'm making a cake, and the recipe said I could use a 9x13 sheet pan. I thought the pan looked rather full, but I wasn't expecting it to run over. (The recipe actually said to put two stacked cookie sheets under the pan.) After 45 minutes (the supposed baking time), the cake was very jiggly, and starting to run over. I put a bigger cookie sheet in the oven to catch the drips, but not soon enough to stop what was already on the oven floor... and which is filling our house with a lovely... burnt smell. Good thing it's a cool day outside and I already had the windows open! :) I put a piece of foil loosely on top, since the top of the cake was getting rather dark, and I'm going to keep baking and checking until the cake tests done. I have a feeling I'm in for a real disaster-treat, but I'm not pulling an under-cooked cake out of the oven -- which is a sign of giving up early. You never know what could happen. Plus, there's a whole cup of honey in this cake. The worst disasters are the expensive ones!! At least this cake was easy to mix up, and Yehoshua had a blast helping me make it. :) Tammy the expensive disasters are also the ones I try to get the family to eat even though I know they taste awful. I had an expensive disaster with scones on Friday morning. At dinner those scones where still eating on the counter. Can you believe I even wrapped then and but them in the frig. Friday night; hoping the next morning the little ones won't realize they where the same scones from the morning before. Well by lunch the next day I finally gave in and trashed them. I should have tried feeding them to the dog at least she might have eating them. Hi Tammy, Did you know that the ad at the end of this post leads to a site called "our Love Calculator" (which says not to click unless you're over 18) and which offers horoscopes? It just doesn't sound like the sort of site you would want to promote, so I thought maybe you weren't aware of it. Kristy, the cake tastes okay, but not great. :) I'm not sure why it ran over, because what's left in the pan certainly doesn't even come half-way up the sides! Anonymous, thanks for letting me know about the offensive ad. We hadn't seen anything like that from Google -- yet -- and we definitely don't want that on this website!! Usually the ads are geared towards the keywords in the blog post, so (we hope) recipe stuff shows up... that sort of thing. I will talk to Joshua about this tomorrow, since he's the one who takes care of all the technical stuff for me! :) Post new comment |
