My wife does most of the cooking :) She is a faaaaar better cook than I am--not to mention significantly tidier--so I am pretty happy about that! She has a knack of making food exactly the way I like it. I always get a good chuckle out of her making me a sandwich. I tend to pile on all the things I really like, whereas she always makes a nice balanced sandwich that tastes significantly better than my meat-and-cheese monsters!
Most of my cooking is grilling meat on my Weber Grill, preparing a new dish or dessert, or something quick and easy for breakfast or a snack. Sometimes I like to help with dinner if I can fit it in, but Tammy usually has all those bases covered.
A funny anecdote: About three weeks ago Yehoshua and I were doing the weekly shopping. A customer had overheard us talking about making a Strawberry Rhubarb pie. When we were at the checkout this lady behind me asks, "Are you really going to make a pie?"
"Well, yeah" I responded, kind of surprised. Her eyes got big and she said, "A real pie, like make it yourself". Seeing her disbelief I chuckled and added, "Yeah, a real pie, from scratch".
Now the cashier got interested, "Are you making the crust from scratch too?" which I replied in the affirmative. The lady behind us said, "Wow, where did you learn to cook" as if I was performing some miracle! They then asked about the crust recipe because they complained their crusts never turn out. So I said, "Well, the recipe is from my wife's side of the family. It is easy to use because it needs no flour adjustments--it just works. You just mix the ingredients, chill it, and then roll it out. Works everytime and it has a nice, flakey texture". They both promptly asked for the recipe!
But that's not all meals, or we'd be rather overweight ;). I almost always cook a nice fresh breakfast and dinner. Lunches are sandwiches, easy meals, or leftovers that I just re-heat. I also often cook something else during the day, like snack foods, granola, energy bars, cookies, some dessert... so that's why I chose "three" instead of just two. :)
In a family with four girls 13-20, plus Mom, I only end up cooking a few times a week besides making my own eggs/fried potatoes/toasted sandwich/apple/whatever for breakfast.
I probably get to do the least amount of cooking, besides Chels(13), of all of us, simply because I am more willing to do the clean up than the other two girls. : p I'm also trying to finish up grade 12, and I look after most of the laundry. I wish I got to do more cooking, though. : )
because my kids do almost all of the cooking. Our truly cooked meals vary from 1-3 per day, but someone always at least prepares the meals, even if the meals don't involve cooking. We try to get some protein in at every meal, which could be meat, cheese, egg, peanut butter, nuts, beans, etc. Sometimes breakfast will be cheese and peanut butter sandwiches, or deviled eggs (salad eggs for some). Lunch could be anything from leftovers to veggies and dip to lasagna and garlic bread. Supper also varies - sometimes it looks more like traditional breakfast foods, sometimes it's a roast with veggies, sometimes a taco salad, etc.
I usually cook breakfast and supper. Lunch is usually sandwiches. I haven't been doing any baking lately because my oven has been broke. I am hoping my husband gets it fixed before the end of the month! (or else, LOL!)
Breakfast and Dinner are cooked daily here ;) Lunch is usually leftovers or something quick.
And like you, Tammy, I might cook granola or cookies or something else for another day so that would make it 2 or 3 times a day. :)
I chose once a day because I cook breakfast on the weekends and then freeze it. Waffles, muffins and such. It usually lasts one week (sometimes more). The microwave or toaster makes reheating easy!
My husband isn't a breakfast eater and I'm the only "morning" person in the group. Early in our marriage we realized we were better off using our time and energy otherwise than sitting down to a big breakfast together and then dealing with all that mess afterwards. So much less stress and strife for folks like us to have a simple, easy breakfast. I also learned early on to apply Proverbs 17:1 to household duties-
Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife
I'm the one who wanted everything "perfect", including mealtime. Everyone else, most especially my husband, thought other things were much more important!
