It took me a while, but I got the recipe written out and the photos all put in place -- so if you're wishing for some delicious sweet New Year's Apple Challah, well, wish no longer! ;) Joshua goes wild over this challah, and it really is yummy.
I made the dough in my bread machine to save some time, and Yehoshua even helped measure ingredients. Joshua made a really good cream cheese frosting which he's been spreading on his pieces of challah. It is like eating a cinnamon roll then! :D
I think breads are one of my favorite things to make. They're just so relaxing and beautiful and delicious. :)

Talents
Hi Tammy,
I hope this finds you well. I think breads are one of your biggest talents. They are just gorgeous!
And of course it is easy to see Joshua's as well - his cheesecakes. Oh, how I wish I could have dairy every time I see one of those. :)
Mmmm...
That is one beautiful challah! It looks very sweet and delicious. I thought you got it off aish.com, but apparently not. They have lots of traditional recipes, though, if you're looking for more!

Mmmmm!
This looks so good, Tammy! I am in a baking mood, too, since the weather has *finally* cooled off and is perfect for baking! :)
I didn't know you were Jewish - how neat to learn something new about you! :D
But actually...
.... in that other comment I said we weren't Jewish! I think you read it wrong. ;)
Apple Challah
That loaf is so pretty!
Apple challah
Oh, thank you for the sweet compliments. :) It's actually really interesting how the randomly-placed chunks of dough in this challah actually look like... challah. When I tried this recipe the first time, I thought it would look really strange when it was finished, but it actually did look like challah! lol
I was also reading that challah baked for Rosh Hashanna is traditionally made as a circle. I didn't know that before, but I guess that's partly why this is supposed to be baked in a round pan. :)
I made this over the weekend
The children just loved it. We made french toast with the leftovers, which my husband really enjoyed. Thank you for sharing the recipe. Bread baking is one of my favorite things to do.
Round Challah
Tammy,
Traditionally challah made for the new year (Rosh Hashana) is made in a round or crown shape. It is supposed to be symbolic of a well rounded new year. Also, challah is not cut on Rosh Hashana it is torn, although I can't remember why. I am going to make this tomorrow as a special treat. I will send pics when it is completed. Thanks for so many great recipes!
