A simple, delicious homemade lasagna recipe

12 servings

1 egg, beaten
12 ounces (3 cups) shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
2 cups (16 ounces) cottage cheese
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese, divided
1 tablespoon dried parsley (or 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley)
1 lb. ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
4 cups spaghetti sauce*
3 tablespoons water*
12 lasagna noodles, uncooked

1. In a mixing bowl, combine egg, 1 1/2 cups of the mozzarella cheese, the cottage cheese, 1/4 cup of the parmesan cheese, and the parsley. Stir until well-blended.

2. Brown meat with garlic and onion. Drain grease and return to skillet. Stir in the spaghetti sauce and water, mixing thoroughly.

3. Spread 1 cup of the sauce mixture into the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish. Top with a layer of three lasagna noodles, one-third of the cheese mixture, and 1 cup of the sauce. Repeat layers twice.

4. Top with remaining three lasagna noodles (if lasagna is getting too "tall" for your dish, press the lasagna noodles down to flatten it a little) and the rest of the sauce. Sprinkle the remaining 1 1/2 cups of mozzarella cheese and the remaining 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese on top. Cover with greased foil.

5. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Uncover dish and bake an additional 25 minutes, until top is browned and noodles are tender. Remove from oven and let stand for 10-15 minutes before serving.

*If using a 26-ounce jar of sauce from the store, you can use 26 ounces of sauce + 9 tablespoons of water in place of the 4 cups of sauce and 3 tablespoons of water.

Original recipe from Kraftfoods.com [2]. I changed the recipe slightly, and the instructions and photos are mine. :)

New Family Favorite!
I, like some of the other commenters, have been intimidated and frustrated with homemade lasagna many times before. I looked on your site today to see if you had a lasagna recipe and sure enough you did! And an "easy" one to boot! :) It certainly was easy too - and very delicious. My entire family cleaned their plates and my husband had seconds. I substituted thick homemade plain yogurt for the cottage cheese and I also used half ground beef & half italian sausage to kick things up a bit. This will be our new standard lasagna. No reason to keep searching, I've found the winner for us. Have a great weekend!

The best!
I've made lasagne 3 times in the last 6 years. Once was 6 years ago and the last 2 times were within the last 3 weeks. Thats because I found this recipe! I made it for guests and the wife kept saying how her lasagne recipe was an old fashioned one and took forever. SO I was nervous to feed this to her. But she & her family loved it! They couldn't believe it was so easy (nor could I). I love the cottage cheese in place of ricotta. It's less expensive and something I normally have on hand. Yum! Thanks for getting us hooked on lasagne :)

Great Lasagna
I finally gave up on another recipe for lasagna I had been using. I just was never happy with the taste and neither was my family. My husband decided that he did not like lasagna anymore so I was afraid to try this recipe but decided to give it a try. Not only is it affordable, it is very easy to make. This recipe is a keeper! My family loved it. Thanks for sharing.

loved by all
Made this tonight for our Valentine meal. Needed to be something red of course and I rarely make lasagna because it costs quite a bit more then I usually spend on my meals. It worked perfectly for a treat though and my kids were thrilled beyond words with it and my homemade garlic bread. We then had Pink Fu-Fu on brownies and my family was complete. :) Very good lasagna, will use this recipe again. Oh, I did leave out the onions. My husband is not a fan of onions but you just can't leave them out of everything. Luckily lasagna is one that I can.

It's my recipe to use too
I've used the recipe from Kraft for this easy to make lasagna for a few years and your recipe looks pretty much exact so even though I haven't made it exactly to your recipe, I think I can safely rate it correctly. The part I love the best is you don't have to take the time and fuss to boil the noodles - love that! Lasagna is my favorite meal so it's going to get a 10 from me... for taste and ease!
