Busy day. Dinner suffers.![]() It was warm and sunny today, and there was work to be done outside. Spending the day outside meant that I didn't get much done in the kitchen. So, I thawed out some hot dogs, used buns from the store, and cooked up some baby carrots (on sale at Aldi's this week). I re-warmed some leftover asparagus, too. I know, I know. It's just so appetizing, isn't it? As we were sitting down to eat, I told Joshua, "I think I'm going to take a picture of this. Just to prove that I'm definitely not super woman!" :) The meal, though certainly not one of my more appealing creations, tasted okay. Even hot dogs can be a treat of sorts, if they're only served once every 3-6 months! Man, I haven't had a hot dog in ages! You're right, it can seem like a treat if you rarely have 'em! :) Bring on the summer and grilling season! That's when they're the best! Actually we're Johnsonville brat fans around here... we have them even more than hot dogs. Now I've got a craving for a hot dog! :o) They are rare treats around here, too, so I don't feel guilty when I serve them (all the nitrates and things). And at least you served your family dinner! ;) Many moms would say that they were too busy to come up with anything and order take-out. So I'd say you did well! :D I must admit I am one that serves them maybe once a month?Kid friendly and quick and come in handy and the kids go crazy over them.Dh likes them alot too.I don't care for hot dogs.I might eat one if it is burnt though.I like the all natural ones they make by Oscar Meyer(I think that is who it is.I have only make them twice. There is green and white on the package). They taste so good. But cheap ones are usually what we end up with. Your dinner looks good Tammy and you didn't resort to take out so Whoo Hoo! I keep a package of hot dogs in the freezer for just that reason, too! They are kind of a treat for us. If you like them crispy on the outside try this instead of boiling them. Take a skillet with a lid, put a bit of oil in the bottom, just enough to keep them from sticking. Heat over medium heat, covered for about 5-7 minutes, just enough to warm them. Then, take the lid off and let any liquid/steam cook off and they will start to crisp on the bottom, turn them until they are crispy on all sides. *we prefer the Nathan's brand all-beef hot dogs. They are more expensive than most brands, but very worth it for a treat once in a while!! Hello Tammy, It seems you are almost apologizing for fixing hot dogs. I can relate to that "guilty" feeling because you got busy and fixed an easy meal. But who says that's wrong or bad? Where in God's word does it say we have to be super woman and fix a 10 course meal every night? After all, are we living to eat or eating to live? Even the Proverbs 31 woman didn't do it all herself. She had lots of servants!!! I too can put myself on a guilt trip and be embarassed for serving something as "ordinary" as hot dogs and then my wonderful husband reminds me that what matters is that there is food on the table. So - as long as your husband does not complain just enjoy the easy meal and give yourself some kudos for fixing food instead of ordering out after such a busy day. Besides, the hot dogs and veggies look yummy!!! I think you are doing an outstanding job keeping up with everything with three little children. Blessings to you. Hi Tammy, I found a reallly nice hotdog by Hebrew National hot dogs. They are supposedly better and the taste is much better than other hot dogs. Now I don't want to eat any other hot dogs. Keep dry today. A big storm is coming our way. Blessings and love your blog, Shell We know you spent time with your family and still managed to make dinner at home! Hot dogs are not the best for you, but eaten every so often are not too bad! Guess what my boys had on Mother's day? = ) You've inspired me!! LOL! Guess what's for dinner tonight. Thanks for sharing this Tammy! I sometimes feel guilty for not always have home cooked meal on the table. Sometimes it's a bag of salad, w/chicken tenders by some company. The way I look at it is, as long as we are all around the table at a meal, I don't care what we are having! As a child, I use to eat my hotdogs w/a slice of cheese too! Usually was across the bun tho, on top! I wonder, just a question...if we had hot-dogs we would have had the carrots grated as a salad...Asparagus with a delicious french dressing (or mayonnaise) I don't serve raw carrots with our meals because my husband has a strange "talent" for somehow getting raw carrots stuck in his nose! The children and I eat them raw for snacks, though. :) The asparagus in the picture was leftover. I didn't take much time AT ALL on the meal in this picture! :) Call me crazy, but It looks good to me! I'd say we're both doing a great job just to serve a hot meal with several little ones around "helping"! Hot dogs are a treat for us too!;0) At least your family having dinner together is important to you, not matter what you're eating. That's one of the "little" things that i think is so important, and can't wait to do with my future kids. (I got married yesterday BTW! YAY!) I had never had it before with cheese. It looks like it might have been pepper jack cheese you used?I got some today and suggested it to Rick if he would like to try it that way and explained how good it looked. We did and loved it!Like I mentioned before I was not a big hot dog fan.Well not with the pepper Jack cheese I love hot dogs if I can have them that way! Thanks for sharing that photo. Mrs. Paradis Oh my I feel bad, we eat hotdogs once or twice a week for lunch around here. Plus you can serve them with homemade coleslaw and some pickles. Thats the best! Post new comment |
