Kitchen Tip Tuesdays: Using less dishwater

We just got our internet hooked up! Considering that we left Ohio a month ago now, this is good news... especially for my blog. ;) I'm so excited about getting back to regular blogging! :) I can't wait to show pictures of my new kitchen and give a family news update... and then get back to foodie stuff. :)

My kitchen tip this week is one that I read on someone else's blog, back before we had a dishwasher. And that is: For all the dishes that don't fit/go in the dishwasher, run some hot soapy water in the biggest bowl/pan and wash them in there instead of in the sink. My by-hand dishes use very little water this way!

And you all were right... I really do like having a dishwasher! We fill ours about every 1.5 days. From the start I haven't pre-rinsed anything, and everything has come out clean, so I've just stuck with that! One of the best things (at least for me at this stage of life) is that the sippy cups (we use them as "traveling water bottles" for the children around the house and in the car) come out sterilized and smelling great despite the many crevices. :)

P.S. For those of you washing all your dishes by hand (surely I wasn't the only one doing that?!), here is my post about conserving on water and dish soap. :)

To participate in Kitchen Tip Tuesdays: Post a kitchen tip in your blog, with a link to this post. Then come here and add your name, tip subject, and URL to this post! Links must be family friendly, as always. If you don't have a blog but would still like to share a tip, just leave a comment here with your tip! Everyone's ideas are appreciated. :) Note: Please link to your individual post, not your blog's main/front page! Ask me if you have questions; links that don't go to an individual post will be deleted. Please, no giveaways since they "expire" and this is for timeless kitchen secrets! ;) Thanks for participating! :)

Duplicate post - OOPS!

Oops, I left my tip for this week on your last post (counter cleaning). I then added it to this weeks... You can remove the other if you'd like. Sorry, I've been remodeling my house & can't think anymore, ugh :(

Others Washing Dishes By Hand?

We are washing all of our dishes for a family of 11 by hand. Not only that, but we are heating water up on our woodburning stove and rinsing, washing and rinsing in large tubs.

We started out this way when we first started camping on our property. Then we got the kitchen in the trailer finished and started washing by hand with actual running hot water!!! Boy was that nice!

But, unfortunately, the faucet was leaking behind the new cabinet which then became moldy. We have now torn our kitchen sink/cabinets out of our 5th wheel and are back to washing dishes by hand in tubs of heated water.

Yesterday, my husband bought a beautiful use, large porcelain sink at Habitat for pennies on the dollar. He is planning a kitchen in our deck tent complete with sink and running water. Soon.....We Pray....

In Him,

Welcome Home!

I'm glad to have you back too.
Hope you are getting all settled into your new home.

I do that with the dish water too. I have a dishwasher now, but I didn't for the first 15 years we were married. And I'm afraid the dishwasher I have now is about to go out. When I make bread I have a really big bowl that I mix it up in. I put the bread in a different bowl to rise, so I use the big bread bowl to do all the dishes in that I dirtied up while making bread.

Welcome Back

Welcome back - I had been praying for your move and getting settled. Glad to hear from you again!

It will be good to see some posts from you

I have missed reading them! I love my dishwasher too! It helps me so much in the daily cleaning of things!

great to see youre back

Im sooo glad to see you are back!! I just knew you would love a dishwasher! ( I always like the idea of everything being sterilized too)

I can't wait to hear all

I can't wait to hear all about the new house and neighborhood and what the kids think of it all! Pics of everything! I think you are very brave with a move like that. I know you were trusting the Father all along, but I'm a worrier despite knowing I shouldn't be! :)
