Broccoli Goodness

Trader Joe's Frozen Broccoli Florets

Finally! A brand of frozen broccoli florets that actually contains... florets! Imagine that! It's not just a bag of chopped up stems!

I liked Aldi's when we lived in Ohio but in my opinion they didn't have good frozen broccoli. While I prefer to cook with fresh broccoli, when it's not on sale or the selection isn't very good, I'll go with frozen.

So far, my bags of Trader Joe's broccoli florets have been amazingly great!

What brand of frozen broccoli do you like best?

I love broccoli, and Joshua and the children like it too! Here are a two of our favorite broccoli meals:

Saucy Broccoli Chicken Bake

Creamy Broccoli Cheese Soup

And a photo of a beautiful chicken and broccoli stir-fry that tasted rather bland. Isn't life colorful? I love it! :)

How 'bout that!

I just bought some of TJ's frozen broccoli tonight! I've never tried Trader Joe's frozen broccoli before and I bought it in hopes that it'll be as good as their frozen corn and frozen string beans. BTW, if you haven't tried their string beans yet, you're missing out! They are delicious.

LOVE TJs

Trader Joe's is my favorite too. When I don't get there and buy a store brand I'm always dissapointed!

Very funny! It's true

Very funny! It's true though, that mostly you just get miscellaneous broccoli parts. Too bad we don't have Trader Joe's here.

Frozen Broccoli

The frozen broccoli spears I get at Sam's are very good. I gave up on broccoli florets long ago for the very reason you described. I have considered buying the huge bag of fresh florets at Sam's and freezing them myself.

We don't have Trader Joe's here, or I'd try those.

Frozen Broccoli

If you have a Costco nearby the Kirkland's brand of frozen broccoli (and other veggies) is very much like this. Excellent, whole pieces.

Frozen Broccoli

I use lots of fresh and frozen broccoli--when I have a Sam's card I buy their big bags. In our area in Southern Ohio it's about the best. Otherwise I buy frozen but only market "flowerettes"--never "cut" or "chopped." I'm an Aldis and Save-a-lot shopper, too, but aside from Greens at Save-a-lot I've found their frozen veggies to be awful and don't buy them any more! Here's a link to our favorite broccoli salad:

You can use turkey bacon if you like. This is my 14 year old son's FAVORITE salad of all time! I make one bunch of broccoli just for him!

Trader Joe's & Aldi

The best broccoli florets I ever bought was a huge bag of organic florets from BJ's. I don't think there was a single stalk among them.

Trader Joe's is my favorite grocery store! If only the closest store weren't a 25-minute drive from our house. The good news is that it's right on the way from my doctor's office, which I make a trip to every couple of weeks for the next two months.

But did you know that the same people who own TJ also run Aldi? Basically, the business model is the same for the two (limited selection, no "brand name" products), but the focus is different. For Aldi, it's all about cheap. For TJ, it's about cheap *health* food. Anyway, I just thought you might find that interesting.

good broccoli

i heard great things about Trader Joe's but there isn't one within several hundred miles of me - and i even live just outside of Denver (it's not like i'm in the boondocks here!). i used to only buy my broccoli from Schwanns. it was delicious, all flower-ettes and pretty reasonably priced for the quality. i also loved their frozen corn and other veggie blends. that ought to be an option for anyone anywhere, whether you have access to a fab store like Trader Joe's or not!

broccoli

Costco. But in the summer I blanch and freeze broccoli from the farmers market. It's so sweet I can't get the kids to stop eating it!

I use the exact same kind!

We buy Trader Joe's broccoli florets, sweet corn, petite peas, and chopped spinach on a regular basis. If I run out and have to buy somewhere else, I am always disappointed. Trader Joe's is the best!

You have to try to roasted

You have to try to roasted frozen corn from TJ. Awesome addition to any mexican food or potato soup. The other day in the 'new products' section TJ's had peanut butter with roasted flax seeds. Stir in a spoonful of honey and it's the best thing you ever had. We don't even bother to put it on bread, it gets eaten directly from the jar.

Broccoli

TJ's has the best! My favorite food usually comes from that store anyway. :) We've been making a delicious cheddar, broccoli and turkey sausage quiche lately... so, so good. I just finished off the leftovers for lunch. :)

That sounds good...the other

That sounds good...the other day I treated myself to lunch "out" and the quiche I ordered was awful. I made quiche for dinner because mine is so much better, and it turned out great--we just used broccoli and Cheddar that time, no meat.

TJ Broccoli

All we use is Trader Joe's Broccoli. It is the only veggie that is consistent with my family. I go in and buy it like 8 at a time!

Aldis

I don't know when you last tried Aldis broccoli, but they recently went though a change. the bag is now slightly smaller, slightly more expensive, and ALL florets. They are also darker in color and I think they may have changed the way they froze them as they look and taste so much better. I bought some Bird's Eye veggies on sale at the grocery store recently and they were all stumps- I told hubby that I'm sticking with Aldis next time.

Odd one out

Ever since I was a child, I prefer the broccoli stem to the flower part. Weird. I also prefer the stalk of the asparagus to the tip.

I buy the huge bags at

I buy the huge bags at Sam's. I think it's Birds Eye brand. I also buy the huge bags of mixed vegetables at Sam's. I used to love the peas at Aldi but they must have changed them because the last few bags haven't been good.

Oh, I wish we had Trader

Oh, I wish we had Trader Joe's here! I've heard so many good things about them!

Aldi's

I just noticed today that Aldi's had a bag of frozen florets. Are these the ones you used or just the plain ol chopped broccoli? I dont' care for any brand of chopped broccoli because of the stalks, but the florets, I buy the big bag of Bird's eye at Wal Mart. Maybe if I'm brave next week, I'll try Aldi's florets and report back. After all, they do have a guarentee on all thier products.

Cream of broccoli soup

I'm no big fan of plain broccoli but I really like cream of broccoli soup. Steam 1 lb. florets (frozen or fresh) till tender. Put into your blender, add chicken broth to cover, and blend till smooth. Return to your saucepan over a low heat, add salt and other spices to taste, more chicken broth if the soup seems too thick, and add about 1/2 cup milk, or cream if desired. If the chicken broth is rich enough, you may find you don't need the dairy. I also add about a cup of grated cheese. Any kind is fine but I like the strong flavor of TJ's Quattro Fromaggio Italian blend. Let the cheese melt. Alternatively, you could sprinkle a little over each individual serving.

This soup is fast and easy to make, tastes wonderful, and gets me eating my green vegetables with no hesitation whatever.

Schwans

We get broccoli from the Schwan guy who delivers to our house. It's all florets (I am antistem LOL) and in a resealable bag so I can just pull out what I need and then throw it back in the freezer.

Love Trader Joes

I used to love shopping at Trader Joe's, unfortunately there isn't one close by us now. :(

I'm usually disappointed when I buy frozen broccoli, but I've been buying fresh broccoli from Aldi's. I recently made a huge pot of broccoli soup with it. YUM! :D

TJs is the best

I remember the first time I opened a bag of frozen broccoli from TJs - I was shocked! Isn't that SAD? It's perfect for stir fry.

Aldi's Florets

I bought a bag of Aldi's florets this past weekend out of curiosity after this post. I figured what could it hurt, Aldi's offers a guarantee on all of thier products and if it's not florets like the package said, I'd just take them back and get a refund.

We had them with supper the other night and I was pleasantly surprised. I found two tiny stem pieces in the whole bag, the rest was all florets! These will be a staple to keep in our freezer from now on!
