Morning productivity

After gleefully declaring at the beginning of this week: Setting a wake-up time is going to be a lot easier for me than setting a bed time was!

...I find it ironic that my motivation for actually getting things done has been at an all-time low (compounded by a toe injury, something I've done before).

What are your best tips for pulling out of a slump?

A number of my solutions in the past (including my favorite one: ask my mom if she'll watch the children for half or more of the day while I get back on my feet!) are no longer possible, so I'm trying to pull tricks out of my current proverbial hat while channeling the extreme energy of two young boys and a toddling little girl. :)

Some of the things that help energize me:

  • making tea
  • organizing and getting rid of stuff
  • getting outside with the children
  • hanging out laundry
  • vacuuming
  • cleaning the bathroom
  • listening to music

I also recently got my hair cut (12 inches! Thanks, Joshua!).

Edited to add: Here is what my hair looks like now. See what I mean about boring? :) Yehoshua took this picture this morning. :)

Minus 12 inches looks like this!

I washed my hair before bed, didn't comb it at all, and woke up with this. I love waves and I love that shorter hair means so many fewer tangles! I liked my long hair before, too, but since my hair is very fine along with being really thick, it was a bit of work to maintain. I prefer to spend just a couple minutes a day on my hair, besides washing it twice a week. :)

Wow that is a lot

of hair cut off Tammy. Can you post a picture of it?I am pituring really short in my head.

Great list

That's a great list of motivators! I get motivated by making a list! Blogging clean up or organization plans has been very motivating too. Before and after photos are fun as well.
I would love to see your hair cut! I have been thinking about doing the same thing. I have long hair and always wear it up. I've thought a change would be nice.
Post a picture for us all to see :)

I like listening to an audio

I like listening to an audio book when I get the work done. Gardening also gets me going, as do organizing things, light redecorating (like hanging up a picture), and projects like sewing. Also making lists and drawing up schedules helps. I rarely use the schedules for long, but it really helps me focus.

the organizing the de-cluttering option always works for me ~ yet my children aren't always so cooperative with my efforts. Somedays, I just have to make it to quiet time, then really kick it into gear while a couple of them are sleeping.

Then try to get a better start the next day....

I hope you are able to get out of your rut - and hope that your toe heals!

I think we need a picture of the new hair cut - did your husband cut it?

Me too

Must be in the air. I have been feeling this way too. I'll check back to see if your readers have any good tips.

oh, and I second the mob. We want a picture!

I have found it helpful

to have something to look forward to....a mini goal.

My current motivation to get my room cleaned up & organized is that when I get it DONE, I can rearrange the furniture & I'm planning to buy a new set of sheets & new pillows for our bed.

That being said, I also find it helpful once in a while to take a full day to just lay around & play with the kids, it is nice to spend time enjoying them & the housework will always be there tomorrow. My oldest two are grown, so I now realize just how quickly the years really do fly.

hair

thats alot of hair cut! did you have to get permission from your husband to get a hair cut!? I dont mean to be rude, but it probably sounds like it, its just not in my understanding.

haircut

Thanks for the encouraging ideas, everyone! :)

My hair is just past my shoulders now, so it's not really too short. :) Joshua cut it for me and then I layered the sides a little myself. :)

I guess I don't "have" to ask my husband's permission to get my hair cut and he likes it at various lengths, including shoulder-length, but I do usually discuss it with him beforehand, since, well, 10+ inches (the amount I usually do every couple years!) is rather drastic. ;)

Oh, you all want pictures but my hair is boring! Seriously!! Boring. :) Maybe I'll ask Yehoshua to take a picture tomorrow, but I honestly can't imagine it being worth posting?! :)

:)

You never know, you might be surprised with what Yehoshua can do. :)

My husband cut my hair to just past the shoulders too recently. :)

Oh, I didn't mean it

Oh, I didn't mean it wouldn't be worth posting because of Yehoshua's photography skills, I meant because my hair is boring!!! :)

YOU have shoulder-length hair now too?! No way!! :)

Lilyofthevalley's picture

Yes :)

Yes, I do! LOL :) Cut it about a month ago... I couldn't believe it when I saw the long hair one the floor... It was what I wanted though. :)

I knew what you meant, just had to post that comment. :)

Anyway, your hair is lovely, I also like how thick my hair feels now and it also gets a bit wavy too.

getting out of a slump

I bake when I am in a slump. Somehow making something for my family to enjoy helps. Especially homemade bread!

slump

Justducky Going to bed a little earlier when you feel crummy never hurts. I listen to a sermon on the radio or read up on training up kids and find some inspiration. Some times I bake muffins with the kids or sit them at what I call "the activity table" My kitchen table with blocks, pagper, crayons, sissors, and anything I can find they will enjoy! It give me a little time to regroup or do the dishes (where I can clearly see them) Outside is great when it isn't snowing here.

Morning Slump

Reading your blog and Diary of a stay at home mom both inspire me to get moving. Also in the evening I sit with my tea and a pad and paper and write my list of things to do the following day. I start with baby steps like get out of bed, wash face, make tea start breakfast wake up kids eat breakfast. I scratch off each item as a go along making sure to add my computer time after I have accomplished the major tasks like starting a load of wash, making beds and unloading the dishwasher. It makes sence for me and when I do not make my list (like last night) I find myself putting stuff off and scrambling later which just puts me in a bad mood. Not fair for me or my family.
I have been meaning to try Morning Thunder. I have decaf sweet coconut thai chai as my evening ritual tea (love it) and earl grey as my morning tea but I will have to try morning thunder soon!

I really like your

Hair like that. Thanks for sharing it.

Tea

Thank you for sharing with us what kind of tea you like! I bought roastaroma by Celestial after reading about your tea, and I think I'm hooked! So glad there's a nice alternative to my morning cup of coffee. My baby will thank me!
For me to unwind and get back on track sometimes is as simple as getting the mail, or working at improving my blog-that really cuts me off from my busyness for a little; also, sipping coffee (or tea!!)with my feet propped up and a book in my hands-almost any book will do...and singing, real loudly...

You hair

Hi Tammy,

I just had to let you know how shiny and healthy your hair looks -- don't think it's boring! It's really very pretty.

Take Care,

Trixie
