I really don't like cooking without a light above the stove, but this house didn't have one when we moved in and I have lived ok without it. My husband keeps telling me we can have one put in, but I keep procrastinating and since I have lived this long without one, I'm thinking maybe its not really necessary.
I use that light all the time. When I'm cooking it must be on. When I'm drying cast iron or the wok it's on to remind me they're on the stove and it's on. If I'm cleaning the stove top it's on. I turn it of almost immediately if I'm not actively doing something but hubby doesn't have that habit down yet. ;)
I use my stove light all the time. I leave it on whenever the oven is hot or I am cooking something on the burner. My kids know if the light is on then the oven or burner is hot and they stay away. I turn it off when everything cools down.
Since we cook on the deck on a 2 burner campout propane stove, a stove light would be an absolute luxury! When we need light, we set up the outdoor construction floodlight on the deck. Otherwise, we cook in the daylight or with the tent flap open to give a little light.

Our condo doesn't have any windows in the kitchen. I like to cook with as much light as an operating room =D
I have my overhead light on, sink light, and oven hood light on when cooking, and I could still use some more light. We've replaced all 3 of those light fixtures to higher output fixtures - but nothing compares to sunlight.
Not me! I forgot that it was there 8 months of the 12 I've lived in my current apartment, and so ... really.... food doesn't need to see, right? Right!
I use it when I'm cooking and turn it off when I'm done. We do leave the light over the sink on all the time though, as a nightlight. I try not to turn on the overhead light unless I have to b/c it's an old fluorescent that makes a humming noise that makes me crazy.

We have a skylight over our kitchen, so I don't have to use any lights during the day. I usually only use the stove light at night.
my stove
doesn't have a light per say. We have it on a kitchen island. And there's a chandlier type light above it.
I wish I had a stove light!

All the time....
If it is not burnt out! I guess I use it too much. Both bulbs are out now. Looks like a good excuse to go to the home improvement store!

Always when cooking and in the evening it is on to keep a bit of light in the kitchen. :)

I'm using it more and more. I love the suggestions of many of the posters about it being a "reminder" of sorts. That is a great tip!!
You mean there's an OFF button?
=D
I leave mine on 24/7. It's a nightlight. I'm up late at night all the time. so it's really handy to have it on.
