Asparagus is still in season, and this year we decided to try Grilled Asparagus! While we still love our old favorite Asparagus and Onions, when it was over 90* outside last week, I was desperate to do as much cooking out on the grill as possible. ;)
After looking through quite a few grilled asparagus recipes, I had a pretty good idea of how it worked. Asparagus goes on skewers, seasoned or marinated according to taste, and then grilled for a couple minutes on each side.
Joshua did the grilling and we all fought over the asparagus, since I had only prepared a pound of it. ;) The next day, I made 2 pounds for dinner. That seemed to be a better amount for our family. :)
You can head on over to the recipe for complete ingredients and instructions, along with a few more pictures! :)

We did the same last week. Though I didn't skewer them, I just was careful to keep them perpendicular to the grates. I just toss my asparagus with some canola or olive oil, lemon pepper, garlic, or whatever sounds good and grill. Our favorite way to eat it!

We loved grilled asparagus but we don't skewer them either.
I like to toss them in either italian or greek salad dressing - yummy!

Oh this looks so good.
We'll have to try it.
We always have a big garden, but we have never grown asparagus. I really want to. I'm going to have to look into it. I'm wondering if you need to plant in the fall.
I grilled cabbage tonight. It was good!

Asparagus is easy to grow but takes patience. We have some in our garden. You plant the first spring and harvest nothing. The second year you can MAYBE harvest once and it is usually a pretty small harvest. By the third year you'll have a pretty big harvest. At the end of each season you just let it keep growing. It will go to seed and come back the next year. If you are in a super cold winter climate you might want to cover it but we don't cover here (in Eastern Oregon).
Asparagus is always the first vegetable ready in our garden and signals summer like nothing else!

Yup, this is how we almost always eat our asparagus....my lil' ones gobble it up!! I've not heard of putting it on skewers before, just plop it on the grill.
Ok, time to get some asparagus....
