Along with making grilled asparagus during last week's heat wave, we were motivated to try another grilling technique: Grilled Pizza!

We roughly followed the directions for grilled pizza in the recipe booklet for our Weber Q grill, prompted by encouragement from others who love grilled pizza!
I made and rolled the dough, Joshua did the grilling. Delicious! We liked it best served HOT.
We'll definitely be falling back on grilled pizza when the next summer heat wave hits us! :) This week however, it's a beautiful, cool, breezy Friday and I'll be making my usual pizza in the oven. :)
Have you ever tried grilled pizza? Was it a disaster or a success? :)

We love grilled pizza. Definitely a good way to keep the house cooler. Last time, I coated the crust with corn meal and it gave a really yummy texture to the pizza. My husband loved it. We usually make personal sized pizzas so everyone can enjoy their favorite toppings.
We love grilled pizza. Our favorite is chicken, bacon, ranch with green onions thrown on top. Super yummy.
Yes, we love grilled pizza. We like it cooked on a campfire too :-)
We also love it! Our favourite is chicken pesto...pizza dough topped with pesto, feta cheese, BBQd chicken, chopped tomatoes and onions marinated in balsamic vinegar. Mmm...
my sister's husband is a pizza-grilling maniac! he loves it and a couple years ago, for his june birthday, he grilled an entire meal of pizzas - including desert pizza. he grills bbq chicken pizza, mac&cheese pizza (with hotdogs!), and even grills the canadian bacon before it goes on the pizza to be grilled. he likes to use the prepackaged Boboli crusts, which i agree are really good, but it's a pricey way to go.
We have made grilled pizza before. We use tortillas for the crust and I set the toppings out in bowls and the kids make their own. They all love it and it is super easy to do.
My friend found a flat bread on the day old rack and I used alfredo sauce she was out of red then I grilled some veggies just put some veggies with garlic olive oil on the grill wrapped in tin foil till there soft then put them on the pizza we also had some left over grilled chix from the night before that I put on it. It was soo good the kids said it was the best pizza they ever had and that auntie jen is the best cook, we will be making it again and the cost to make it was probley less then $5 not bad. also you should brush your crust with olive oil it will keep it from burning and gives it great flavor.
We just grilled pizza this weekend. Try out the crust recipe on the America's Test Kitchen website.

Tammy is that a square pan with holes you purchased seperate for grilling?I think grilling pizza would be great and not heat the house up but right on the grill we thought the dough would fall through and be a big mess. But I would like that pan you have on your grill and do it.

The square grilling platter with holes was from... not sure where! Garage sale, maybe? It's made specifically for on the grill... like for fish fillets that would otherwise fall apart. :)
IF the pizza dough is thick enough (not too sticky) and oiled on the bottom like in my recipe, and if the grill is pre-heated, the crust should start cooking almost instantly and not fall through or make a mess. But the grill pan was like our "insurance" the first time around. ;)

I can vouch for the fact that your pizza dough will not fall through the grate of a grill if it isn't too thin. You cook the crust on both sides until golden brown and then you add your toppings and put it back on the grill on low to cook the toppings a bit. You will find that the toppings on a grill pizza are not as soft as in the oven but that is what makes it so delicious! We love our grilled pizzas!!
