Pre-made hot chocolate mix

Hot chocolate mix, dry

Aside from today (which is beautifully warm and sunny!), we've been having some chilly Autumn days.

I made a container of hot chocolate mix, which is delightfully handy and yummy! Sometimes it's just plain easier to heat up some water and have instant hot cocoa, rather than heating milk like I normally do. :)

Hot chocolate made from the mix!

Already on this site are our recipes for milk hot chocolate, almond joy hot cocoa, and mint hot cocoa. Have I mentioned that I like chocolate? ;)

What are your favorite Autumn and Winter drinks? Anyone have family-favorite recipes to share along those lines? :)

Embellished Hot Chocolate

Hot Chocolate is probably my favorite autumn and winter drink, heck even cool summer night drink! I rarely make it homemade, I usually pick up some packets of the mix, but your recipe for the mix seems pretty simple and I just used my last packet... so it seems like perfect timing! I do "embellish" my cocoa though sometimes. Usually I just stir in some soy milk, non dairy creamer, whatever's handy... but some other yummy stir ins for me are: a tiny splash of vanilla, a splash of amaretto or rum (or the extract... a teensy bit of rum extract in hot chocolate is sooo good!), peanut butter (though I recommend you have either really hot water or melted peanut butter for smooth mixing!) or a few pieces of finely chopped candy bar.

Other than hot chocolate, my next favorite autumn drink would be apple cider. I don't have a recipe though, I usually just buy a jug at the store and then heat it on the stove with some cinnamon sticks...

Yum cocoa!

That looks good. And nice and warm right now! Its cold here in Ohio today and that would just warm me to my toes. I think I'll give it a try.

This is similar to mine only

This is similar to mine only I put mine in the blender to get it to a really fine powder. Mixes much better this way. I dislike the lumps (texture) of dry milk. Plus the sugar dissolves much better when it's blended into a powder.

Powdered hot cocoa mix

Shannon, I have actually tried other recipes for hot cocoa mix that called for powdered sugar... I tried both ways this week for a side-by-side comparison (powdered vs. granulated sugar) and couldn't tell a difference in the texture/"dissolve-ability" part but liked the taste of the granulated sugar one better.

BUT I am guessing with your fine powdered version, your water can be hot (not as close to boiling) and still dissolve quickly and easily! :)

Mmmm, I just thought of another good variation... using vanilla sugar instead of plain! :)

I like the granulated sugar

I like the granulated sugar better also. I've made it with powdered sugar but I like it better when I "powder" my own sugar. Vanilla sugar is a great idea!

Smokey flavoured teas

I am not that big fan of chocolate, but I do like hot chocolate... Especially with mint!
However, my choice for autumn/winter drink usually is tea.
For black teas, I prefer strong Assam during the cold months and Lapsang Souchong (smokey flavoured tea) and Russian Caravan (slightly smokey flavoured) are so good!
I also enjoy "Spiced" Black teas - cinnamon, ginger, pumpkin spice, licorice, gloves. I also enjoy Chai - and of course green tea with peppermint! :)

Hot chocolate!

Hot chocolate is one of my absolute favorite drinks! I tried your recipe for hot chocolate mix the other night, and it was delicious...tasted like a packaged mix!
I usually like to add vanilla to my hot chocolate, and the last hot chocolate I made I added a little maple syrup - very good.
Thanks for all your work on your blog! It's one of my favorites!
