Dry Erase Menu Planning![]() For a number of months I did a week-in-advance menu plan using a dry erase board. This worked well for me, as I was able to plan, erase, or re-arrange as needed, and I always knew what was on the menu for the next seven days. Here is how I did it: First, using a dry erase board, I wrote the names of the days of the week in a vertical list. (See photo above.) Second, I made out a one-week menu. I usually planned 1-2 meals for each day. I wrote the menu on the dry erase board under the appropriate days. Then, each day, after I had made the food planned on my menu, I erased that day's food and added something for the next week in that spot. I always had seven days' worth of meals planned, and I only had to plan one day at a time. I could also erase and move things forward if needed (for example, if we got invited out to dinner, or ate leftovers when I had planned something else, etc.). I would plan things like a roasted chicken on one day, and then a couple days of meals using leftover chicken meat in the main dishes. Planning just a week in advance gave me flexibility, yet I still had a plan at all times! It works for me! :) Then I wouldn't be annoyed with all the cross outs on the sheet when things change. Wonderful idea, and that way you don't hear "Mom whats for dinner" all the time. Laurel Wreath My children might be changing the menu!!!:) Tracy Only I write it right on our fridge....we have a smooth white metal one. And to wipe it, I just use windex. :) My fiancé and I use a Googledoc as our grocery list and I list our weekly meals there. This way, he can view "what's for dinner" from any computer, from work, or home. And we can both edit the grocery list in this way, too. Googledocs automatically backs up for free. We also keep, at the bottom of the list, a reference list of the top 12 "cleanest and dirtiest" foods so we know which foods we can buy conventional and which are worth splurging on organic. This system works really well for us, and we print the list when it's time to go shopping! Great idea! One thing I did when I was teaching preschool, is to make the "frame-work" of a calendar on the whiteboard using a sharpie marker so it would stay permanent (you can always erase it using rubbing alcohol). Then I'd use the dry erase pens to write in the info that would change (days of the week, dates, birthdays, etc.) Thought I'd pass this along in case it would help anyone. I'm thinking of doing the same sort of thing at my house, as I LOVE dry erase boards and this system looks like one that would work for us. Hugs & Blessings! I had an extra dry-erase board here at the house so I made up a quick notes board kind of like what I described. I put a post up about it on my blog. :) Hugs & Blessings! Post new comment |
