Review of Shaklee Vita-Lea with Iron (multi-vitamin)

About 6 weeks ago, I posted about a new multi-vitamin I was starting to take. I've been using Shaklee's Vita-Lea with Iron since that time, and am very pleased with the effects!

I had heard good reports about this multi-vitamin, but was not honestly expecting to notice any real difference in energy level, alertness, etc.

 Shaklee Vita-Lea with Iron

I don't believe in "miracle supplements". I've always felt that good physical and mental health is a result of good nutrition, exercise, and a relationship with our Creator.*

So when I began taking these vitamins, I didn't hold my breath for special magical physical changes. I wasn't disappointed, because there weren't any immediately stunning results. I had been experiencing fatigue and tiredness but I did not (and do not) expect a dietary supplement to cure the effects of not getting enough sleep every night. Wink

However, after about a week of taking this vitamin, I realised that I was feeling unusually perky, chipper, and awake. I had more energy and thought to myself, "Wow! I've felt great these past few days... what have I been doing differently?"

I hadn't been exercising. I hadn't been eating differently. I hadn't been drinking more water. (All of those things are on my list of changes to make... but one thing at a time!) I hadn't even been getting more sleep.

I realised that the main thing I was doing "differenly" from the past, was that I was taking Shaklee's Vita-Lea with Iron every morning!

I am more than satisfied with this multi-vitamin. I'm delighted to have found a good-quality multi-vitamin that doesn't contain artificial colors or impossible-to-absorb nutrients. I am definitely going to continue taking this product!

I still don't believe it's a "miracle supplement", but I do think it has helped boost my physical well-being! If you have a Shaklee distributor in your area, I recommend trying this multi-vitamin! Laughing

*I'm not saying that Christians are magically healthy all the time, but rather that having the peace and joy of knowing Yeshua contributes substantially to mental well-being, which in turn affects our physical health. Smile

Pregnancy and vitamins

Tammy,
What convinced you that Nature's Plus Ultra prenatal vitamin was one of the best? I have been using over the counter local pharmacy brands and I haven't found one yet that doesn't make me sick. My nurse midwife suggested taking 2 flintstones a day if I think I can eat a really healthy diet. Usually I have NO problems in this category, but with pregnancy I'm pretty nauseous (of course this could be from the vitamin???)Any suggestions?

I could not keep vitamins

I could not keep vitamins down in any of my 3 pregnancies. I found a pharmacy that would grind them down and make them into a liquid. I had no problem taking them then.:)

pregnancy and vitamins

I have had three children with two different Dr.'s and a midwife. All three I have tried different vitamins and not a one could I take. I tried for the nine months each time and yet I just could not keep them down. I had a 9lb 11oz, 10, and 11 pound babies all happy and healthy. I praise God for these three miracles. I just couldn't do the vitamins and I still made it through. I say this to give you a little hope in your trial:) My husband reminds me all the time how worth all that sickness was...he is sooooo right!

(Of course you should always listen to your midwife or Dr.)

Prenatal Vitamins/supplements

I liked Nature's Plus Ultra Prenatal vitamins for various reasons... they don't contain artificial coloring, they contain a high amount of Biotin (vitamin B...7? I think it's also called), they're more natural and one of the easier vitamins to absorb and benefit from.

However, the Shaklee Vita-Lea vitamins are even easier for the body to absorb and contain more variety of good things (like spirulina, alfalfa powder, etc.) although the vitamin doses are much lower than in the Ultra one from Nature's Plus. (Folic acid is at 400 mcg, for example, so pregnant women should supplement with extra folic acid if using these as a 'prenatal")

I have had relatively sickness-free pregnancies and didn't have a problem with vitamins. I have heard that iron supplements can cause nausea; perhaps a prenatal with iron would cause it. (I took liquid chlorophyll when I was pregnant, which boosts hemoglobin levels in the blood.) Perhaps taking the vitamin with a meal or a light snack before bed might help...

I stay away from most "regular" vitamins (like what wal-mart sells) because they're coated with dye and it's debatable how much of the nutrients are even absorbable (some even contain synthetic Vitamin A, for example!). I do try to take vitamins now that I've been pregnant/breastfeeding, since I know my body needs extra nutrients. :)

Wow, Shorty, your babies were HUGE!! :D
