Cleaning second-hand childrens' board books

If you're like me, you love bargains. And what's more fun than finding second-hand childrens' books at garage or rummage sales?!

Here's a quick and easy way to sanitize used childrens' board books! Read more!

My daily schedule, starting September 2006

A couple months ago, I posted a sort of daily schedule for our household. About the time I was posting that schedule, our schedule was in the process of changing, as Joshua was pursuing additional employment. (He had previously been working from home full-time; now he works full-time at a factory and does web design on the side.)

I hadn't realised just how accustomed I was to having Joshua home with us all day, every day! Even though he spent a good deal of time working (and didn't just play with us all day ;D), it sure was nice to have him here for all the meals and such. :)

It took us a couple weeks to get used to a more rigid schedule. Even though I had tried to be somewhat consistent with mealtimes and bedtimes, there was a lot more room for flexibility when Joshua was home all day. My day also got re-arranged slightly, but not substantially. :)

So, here is my "revised" schedule, starting in September 2006 and currently in use. :) Read all about it!

Frugal Fridays: Dresser drawer scents

Here's my frugal tip for the week: How to get lovely scented clothing for essentially "free"!

Housekeeping Blues

Blah! ;)   Every now and then I get what I call the "Housekeeping Blues". Okay, so it actually happens to me at least a couple times a week! I feel completely lethargic and overwhelmed. Usually, the house just needs a good straightening and a little cleaning. Once the house is organised and/or cleaned, I feel immensely happier and energetic.

Sometimes all the time it takes me is an hour or so, but getting started is like climbing a mountain!

So, whether I just need to pick up the house or actually do some real cleaning, here's what works for me! Read about it!

Frugal Fridays: Mop re-fills

Today's frugal fridays tip is for those of you who (like me) use one of those super-convenient Chlorox or Swiffer brand mops on your floors. The companies who make these wonderful mops count on a person purchasing special pads and bottles of cleaning solution...

...and paying approximately 50 cents (or more!) every time they mop their floor! Not me! Read how!

Autumn weather encourages garage-cleaning

Monday was quite a rainy, dreary day here in our corner of Ohio. Sunday was so beautiful and sunny and warm; Monday was a complete change, and it truly felt like Autumn had arrived!

And then Tuesday it wasn't rainy, but it was decidedly cooler and now going outside with the children involves putting on two sets of socks, shoes, coats, and hats. ;)

The Autumn weather gave me this nice warm nesting feeling (which I get rather often, pregnant or not!) and the motivation to tackle some of the larger items on my mental to-do list. One of which was cleaning the garage!

My daily schedule, February-August, 2006

Christi suggested I post about our daily schedule. I had already been thinking about writing about schedules, since we happen to be in the process of changing ours. (Just how dramatically, I'm not yet sure! We're in "transition" this week!) So for starters, here is the schedule we have been using this year. When we work out our new one, I'll write about it then. :) (Read more...)

Tammy and Yehoshua, ready to eat lunch

What our daily meals are like, thoughts on food, etc...

Today was a fairly relaxing day. In the morning, I gave baths to the children, washed a load of laundry, stuff like that. I put Yehoshua down for a nap early (11 am) since he had gotten up before 7, and then in the afternoon, we went over to visit at my parents' house. My mom had invited her mom (my grandma), also, and she just loves to see her great-grandchildren. There's something so special about babies, and seeing generations together is so rewarding and touching.

This evening, Joshua asked me, "So, what's for dinner?" I replied that I had been thinking about making grilled cheese. We love grilled cheese, but it's like my back-up plan for when I haven't really planned ahead and don't know what else to make. :| So then I said, "Well, what do you want me to make?" and Joshua said, "Well, you should be able to come up with something that sounds good. After all, you are the owner of Tammy's Recipes.com!" I started laughing and said, "I knew that was coming sooner or later" ;) Then I said, "Well, honey, I hate to inform you of this, but I really am the same person I was 2 weeks ago when you bought the domain name. I wish buying a domain would change me! Ha, I would buy "excellent wife" and "nice mom all the time" and stuff like that!" :)

So, in case this website is giving anyone the impression that I am some fabulous cook who makes 7-course meals every night while being the best wife and mom in the world......
